2025 TCGA Annual Letter From the President

Kyle Nedlik
TCGA President
March 22, 2025

TCGA Golfers,

We hope everyone had a happy and healthy winter season as we make our way into Spring and the 2025 golf season. We wanted to take a moment to share with you a glimpse of changes to our organization and our path forward for the upcoming season and beyond.

We would like to start by saying thank you to our renewing 2025 sponsors to date for their support into the 2025 season:

We continue our investment in sponsorship outreach to assist in building funds to help bolster and expand the TCGA’s current and future programming. Other businesses interested in sponsoring, please reach out to tcgagolf@gmail.com as we would welcome discussion on how our organizations could best partner.

The board of directors will remain largely the same, with the exception of Hugh Leonard and Rob Mabee departing the board in their respective positions. We thank both of them for their years of service to the TCGA!

2025 Plans for the TCGA Include:

  • As announced in last year’s message, the TCGA will implement a membership requirement including USGA/GHIN Handicap requirements for all tournament registrations, see our membership page on our website.
      • For team events, a minimum of one member per team will need to meet TCGA membership requirements.
  • All events from all divisions to now be hosted in Golf Genius and participants will be required to create a golf genius account.T
      • This change will standardize and streamline payment processing, tournament registrations, correspondence to competitors, and allow for a standardized user interface across all events and divisions for viewing results.
  • Harding Brooks Insurance Agency TCGA Amateur Championship moved to June 20th-22nd.
      • This date change intends to better position the event weeks ahead of the NYS Amateur Championship for the exemption awarded to the winner and avoid conflicts with the July 4th holiday, other local golf events and the DSGO.
  • 2025 Match Play Championship presented by Fairways Indoor Golf to be played at Links at Hiawatha Landing.
      • This year’s event will include a Friday Qualifier, with all matches updated from a 9-hole format to 18-holes allowing for World Golf Amateur Ranking (WAGR) points to be awarded.
  • New Championship trophy for the TCGA Match Play Championship and Scoville-Meno TCGA Junior Tour Championship, as well as renewed trophies for the TCGA Amateur Championship and TCGA Player of the Year.
  • Continuation of Scoville-Meno Family of Dealerships TCGA Scholarship program for graduating seniors
  • Expansion of the Scoville-Meno TCGA Junior Tour Championship to a 36-hole event.
      • This will allow for exemptions into the 2025 NYS Boys’ & Girls’ 18U Junior Championship, Junior Golf Scoreboard points, and potentially AJGA stars and Team NY points (details to follow)
  • Continuation of the Senior TCGA events and championship.
  • Renewal of the second annual TCGA Women’s Event. In last year’s inaugural edition, nearly 40 competitors participated.
  • A new Women’s Clinic event
  • Continuation of “Player of the Year” competition.
      • This is the 5th year of $1000 gift card prize pool (sponsored by Remlik’s) distributed to the Top 10 in the points system
  • Continued development of relationship/partnership with New York State Golf Association (NYSGA) to elevate our events and organization.

In addition to our Website, our growing Instagram and Twitter pages, along with our Facebook group page (be sure to follow them!) will continue to be used to further distribute content and promote events throughout the season for contestants. 2025 Season schedules are planned to be released within the next 1-2 weeks, with a registration opening date/time of Wednesday, April 2nd at 12:00PM for all events through the August.

The TCGA is always looking for volunteers – if you are interested in helping shape the future of amateur golf in the Triple Cities through involvement on the Board of Directors or more specific volunteer opportunities, please reach out to one of our board members!

We look forward to the continued opportunity to continue to serve our area courses and contestants this upcoming season. See you on the course!

2024 Scoville-Meno TCGA Scholarship Awards

Congratulations to the 2024 Scoville-Meno TCGA Scholarship recipients, Drew Karedes, Joseph Dell, and Lucas Hunter!

Thank you to the Scoville-Meno Family of Dealerships for their generosity and support of Junior Golf in the Triple Cities!

Below is a photo of two of our recipients receiving their scholarship certificates, and a bit more about all three recipients.

Drew Karedes

Drew is a 2024 graduate of Union Endicott High School, graduating with honors and an advanced regents diploma. A five year member of the UE Golf team, he attributes Coach Matt Morley and his teammates for pushing him to be his best, on the course and in life. He contributed to the Tigers 2022 and 2023 STAC Championships and the 2023 Section IV Championship. Drew also qualified for the NYS tournament the last two seasons. He was awarded the Hurst Mitten Award for outstanding leadership and character.

Drew will be attending James Madison University in the fall and will study business and marketing. He would like to thank the Scoville-Meno family of Dealerships and the TCGA for the opportunity to receive this scholarship, which will be very useful as he prepares for his freshman year at JMU.

Joseph Dell

Joseph began playing golf at a young age, and has continued playing the game ever since. He has been a member of the Maine-Endwell golf team for the past 6 years. During his senior year, he helped lead the Maine-Endwell team to a sectional title while also placing second overall. Joseph maintained an honor roll status throughout highschool while also participating in swimming during the winter, and lacrosse during the spring.

Joseph has played in many TCGA events over the past few years and plans to compete in more this summer. He plans to attend The University Of Scranton in the fall where he will be continuing his golf career and studying business, and is very thankful for the opportunity to receive this scholarship.

Lucas Hunter

Lucas Hunter, a recent graduate of Trumansburg High School, is set to embark on an exciting journey at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona, where he will pursue his dream of becoming a professional pilot. Throughout his high school years, Lucas was an active and engaged student, participating in the soccer and golf teams. His passion for aviation started in seventh grade when he found the First Tech Challenge robotics team, Mechanical Meltdown, in Watkins Glen. This is where he began to build and control robots. In the following years, he worked on building and flying drones and eventually found his ticket to the skies. In September last year, he began taking private pilot lessons through the East Hill Flying Club.

In addition to his academic and extracurricular pursuits, Lucas has a deep love for golf, a sport he has enjoyed since childhood, thanks to his grandparents, who introduced him to the game at a young age. This early exposure to golf honed his skills and instilled in him a sense of discipline and patience that he carries into all aspects of his life. Lucas is thankful for the opportunity to receive this scholarship. As Lucas prepares to take to the skies, he looks forward to combining his technical knowledge, athletic discipline, and lifelong passions to achieve his goals and inspire others.
